Tony Charles is an artist practising in the North East of England
where influences of an industrial backdrop continue to feature within
his work. Drawing, painting, sculpture and installation are usually
created in response to a location during various residencies. These
site specific contexts inspire work that is often underpinned by his
interest in the current post-industrial era and its ever changing
'work-scape'. Much of his investigations have focussed upon collisions
between industrial and domestic environments through the use of
disparity between object and material, resulting in many sculptural
hybrids of these bi-polar worlds.

Tony Charles est artiste qui pratique son métier dans le Nord-Est
d'Angleterre ou les influences avec, comme arrière-plan, un paysage
d'industrie continue d'être les grands traits de son travail. Dessins,
peinture, sculpture et montage sont habituellement crée en réponse a
une site dans lesquels il était pendant ses résidences
professionnelles. C'est à ce propos que ses œuvres sont inspirées,
souvent étayée par son intérêt pour l'ère post-industriel et son
paysage, son lieu de travail. La plupart de ses recherches se sont
cibles sur les conflits entre environnants industriel et domestique
vers l'emploi d'inégalité entre objet et matériel avec, en résultat un
grand nombre de hybrides sculpturaux de ses mondes bi-polar.
